Why this matters now

The classroom has changed. Teaching has to change with it.

Today you are expected to hold far more than the lesson in front of you.

Manage

Behaviour, conflict and a room full of different temperaments.

Connect

Trust, empathy and relationships with every child.

Engage

Motivation and real participation, not just compliance.

Support

Wellbeing and resilience, especially when things go wrong.

Adapt

Different needs, different paces and genuine inclusion.

Social and emotional skill is now part of the job, whether or not it was part of your training. Teachers who have it describe calmer rooms and a more sustainable working week.

Why social and emotional learning, and why now

Where the field is going

These patterns start younger than the numbers suggest. Anxiety, low frustration tolerance and difficulty with transitions often show up first in early years classrooms, and the habits formed there are carried forward. Schools across curricula are now planning for social and emotional wellbeing alongside academic success, and looking for teachers who already have the skill.

Where this fits

Your training already gives you a lot. This adds the tools for the hard moments.

What your training already gives you

  • Subject knowledge
  • Lesson planning
  • Classroom routines
  • Observing your students

What this certification adds

  • Explicit, teachable tools for helping a child regulate
  • Words for naming a feeling in the moment, at the child’s level
  • A way to steady a dysregulated child without disrupting the room
  • Tools for your own steadiness, so a hard day does not become a hard week
  • The language schools and parents now use, and a credential that shows you have it

For teachers across IB, Cambridge, British, American and national or regional curricula.

The gap

Awareness is not ability

What most SEL training gives you

An understanding of what emotions are, why regulation matters and what the research says. Frameworks, diagrams and vocabulary, useful, and things you could explain in a staff meeting.

What it usually does not

What to actually do mid-morning, when a child is on the floor, the room is watching and you have about ten seconds to decide. Or how to stay steady yourself the third time that day.

This certification is built around being able to: practical tools you use in the room the next morning, practised until they hold under pressure.

What changes for you

What you will be able to do

Read what drives a behaviour

Not only the behaviour itself: so fewer moments spiral.

Settle a child, and a room

In the moment it happens, with calmer transitions and quicker recovery.

Hold difficult conversations

Without escalating them, so children begin to name what they feel.

Look after your own steadiness

Through a long term, in a room that feels safer to everyone in it.

Recognise when to refer

Notice sooner when a child needs specialist support, and give parents a clearer picture.

Independent research

What happens when teachers are trained in this

A 2021 meta-analysis of 43 studies, covering 3,004 teachers from preschool to Class 12, found three consistent shifts: teachers’ own social and emotional competence improved, wellbeing improved, and psychological distress fell. Calmer, steadier adults are the starting point for calmer rooms, which is why this certification trains you first. These are research findings across interventions, not outcomes claimed for Alchemi-E.

What you learn

What you will come to understand

About yourself

Your own state comes first. Children learn to settle by watching an adult settle.

  • How a thought becomes a feeling, and a feeling an experience that stays
  • Where attention goes, energy flows
  • Fight, flight and freeze, noticed in yourself first
  • Self-awareness that begins in the body
  • Gratitude, and what it does for a tired mind

About the child

What sits underneath a behaviour, read before you react to it.

  • Recognising a feeling a child cannot yet name
  • How a child forms, from watching adults to finding their own way
  • How the mind shows up in the body
  • The difference between awareness and focus
  • What is not yours to hold, and who it goes to

In the room

Small things you can use every day, with any child, at any age.

  • Word, image, feeling: how one word lands on a child
  • Affirmation felt in the body, not repeated by rote
  • Breath as the quickest way back to steady
  • Working with a difficult thought instead of fighting it
